Founded in 1970 by Prince Rainier III, the Y.C.M. Sports Section welcomes youngsters from the age of 6 all year round, either as schoolchildren in collaboration with the French Ministry of Education, or as club members. Whether in Optimist, ILCA, J/70 or Bug, from initiation to competition at the highest level, our instructors and trainers are committed to learning to sail, discovering the sea and protecting our maritime environment.
On Optimist, Bug, Topper, ILCA and J/70, courses, training sessions and internships are run all year round by eleven state-qualified instructors and trainers, whose mission is to teach sailing, discover the sea and protect the maritime environment.
Youngsters aged 6 and over can learn to sail on a Bug, then move on to a Topper, and finally join the competition teams, depending on their physical qualities and motivation.
Throughout the year, the Sporting Section of the Yacht Club de Monaco offers its members a wide range of nautical activities adapted to their level and maritime experience.
Discovery and introductory sailing sessions are offered on Topper, J70 or Smeralda 888, on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00 (June to August).
Advanced training sessions in the form of J/70, Topper or Smeralda 888 regatta training are offered on Fridays from 5:30 to 8:00 pm and on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00 pm (from June to August), as well as courses during the school vacations. The aim is to move towards a more sporting approach.
To optimize the physical fitness of its racing members, including the young members of the Sports Section, the Yacht Club de Monaco offers a tailor-made program adapted to the practice of sailing, set up by the trainers in collaboration with the coaches in the “Fitness & Well-being” area.
